This website is an audio library of workplace noise assembled by artist and musician Siôn Parkinson. Working with the National Library of Scotland Sound Archive, the project helps preserve the sounds of factories, machines, and other industrial ambience. Visitors can search, submit, and download sounds for free, ideally putting them to use in the creation of new “work songs” for the 21st century. Once uploaded, each new file is converted into a sonogram or “sound picture,” creating a composite audio-visual that can be played and paused using the blue “player” at the top of the window.
